SEVENTEEN FORTY

Sculptural Powder Rooms Adorned with Artworks

Ironically, the straight and sober lines quite often seen throughout French Neoclassical architecture have inspired this multi-floor speakeasy in New York City. The owner of the original pre-prohibition speakeasy bought all four of the apartments directly above the bar, leasing them out till approaching Studio Brent Lee for a clever idea

Now, all four apartments have been redesigned to allow free access throughout the floors, containing multiple lounges and sitting areas. Original interior architectural details have been left where possible while new complimenting finishes have been installed both to enhance and bring the space into contemporary times

Seventeen Forty’s varying powder rooms are just as desirable to socialize in with their sculptural vanity areas adorned with numerous vases, vessels, and figure sculptures. There’s complimenting contemporary linen sofas throughout the powder rooms, making one seamlessly transition from the original first-floor bar, to the converted residential apartment speakeasy lounges to the gallery-like powder rooms
